The concept of 'gifting an item' has first been added with the addition of Secret Saxton item, back in September 30th, 2010.

Upon using the Secret Saxton, a random player in the current server is selected to receive a random newly created item as a gift. Items acquired through the Secret Saxton are marked as gifts from the user and timestamped with the receipt time and date in their descriptions.

Since the Gift Wrap was added about a month later, on October 27th, 2010, and this item was received 13 days before that, it is safe to say that the item was recevied from the Secret Saxton.
